Sailing for Health

April 25, 2006 on 4:16 pm | In Healthy body |

One of the healthiest things I have ever done was to sail a 40ft Yacht from New York to Sydney, Australia with my Chinese wife Hong. By the time we arrived in Australia we were as fit as Malley Bulls (to coin an Aussie phrase). Loads of exercise, clean air and simple healthy food were the key ingredients of our healthy lifestyle. Muscles become toned from hauling up sails, grinding winches and from just the continuous balancing of the body against the rolling, pitching and yawing of the boat at sea.

Even though we only slept for 3 hours in shifts, and sometimes went for a couple of days without sleep we still were full of energy and remained free of any of the common minor sicknesses that plague modern civilization.
